Setting up Azure Analysis Services and Connecting Power BI to it.

This Video is a practical demo on how to Deploy a Tabular data model into Azure Analysis services and how to connect it to Power BI and share it with Role based security.

The video is based on a live stream so it isn't perfect but it does the job :)

Requirements:

  • An Azure Subscription (Free 30 day trail available)
  • SQL Server installed on your local machine (I use SQL Server 2017 Developer Edition)
  • A Power BI Account
  • Visual Studio 2017 (To work with Analysis Services Projects)
  • A SQL Server Database (I used Contoso Retail Data Warehouse)
  • Optional second Power BI account to test Role based security
  • SQL Server Management studio 2017
